Team building activities are already very popular, in response to increasing demand from businesses and corporations that want to develop their workforce from a group of individuals into an efficient and united team that is a cohesive force in the company.

Through a series of activities and exercises designed with the collective in mind, team building raises trust, instils core values and develops creative thinking whilst providing an opportunity for fun in a sociable and inspiring environment. Many events companies offer team building over days or weekends.

Team building games are usually based on thinking activities. Physical games are usually left for the outdoors.

The types of team tasks available tend to fall into two categories: competitive and cooperative. Competitive tasks can be divisive, as in a competition there is always a winner and a loser, thus negating the ethos of team building and resulting in a loss of morale.

Therefore, cooperative tasks are more highly favoured by companies. They can create feelings of being supported and understood. Individual team members know that as long as they always try hard their team will help them when they need it. Everyone's role within the team is important, and people understand what their own roles are.

Team training is held indoors and often uses IT to facilitate the process. Various games, puzzles and problem-solving activities are provided by specially written software designed to stretch a team to the limit, often against the clock. The group will have to work closely together in order to succeed.

Other less technical indoor activities include murder mystery evenings, the apprentice, pig racing, office olympics, the X-factor. There is truly something to suit everyone in the team, no matter if there level is moderate, high or advanced.

Well-planned team building events always take into account the needs of the business and the individuals attending the session or event. In this way, the exercises and games that the team perform can be tailored to achieve the greatest possible benefit.

By taking part in team building training participants can gain much in the way of self-esteem, support, trust, knowledge and approval, as well as many other measurable markers of success. At the end of an event, the company should receive feedback on individual performances alongside any recommendations for improvement or further training.

The importance of team building, whether it is indoor or outdoor, is a factor that is acknowledged as advancing the cohesion and efficiency of any team.

Taking part in team building activities will help to stimulate your team to cooperate in a way that will benefit both the company and the team in the long run.
